Curriculum design is important for effective teaching because it is the foundation that instruction is built upon. But regardless of grade level, creating engaging and relevant curricula that meets standards while also effectively teaching subject matter can feel like an impossible effort. Separate subjects taught separately with little or no effort to relate them to each other (e.g., mathematics, science, languages, and humanities may be taught as unrelated core subjects in high schools). In the broad fields/integrated curriculum design, two, three, or more subjects are unified into one broad course of study. This organization is a system of combining and regrouping subjects that are related to the curriculum. As with other curriculum-related concepts, curriculum design has a variety of definitions, depending on the scholars involved.
If end-of-course tests are to measure important aspects of domain proficiency, test makers need to have a sophisticated understanding of the target domain. They must understand the content and the process dimensions that are valued in the discipline and then design the test to sample among a broad range of these dimensions (Millman and Greene, 1993). Doing so is complicated, however, by the fact that an assessment can only sample from a large universe of desirable learning outcomes and thus can tap but a partial range of desirable cognitions. Consequently, concerns will always arise that a particular assessment does not measure everything it should, and therefore the inferences drawn from it are not valid.
This principle is key for effective curriculum design because it ensures that all components of the curriculum are working together to achieve the desired outcomes. When elements are not correlated, they can work against each other and undermine the effectiveness of the curriculum. Furthermore, correlation helps to ensure that students are exposed to a well-rounded curriculum that covers all essential content areas. The goal of this article is to discuss the key principles of effective curriculum design. It will further assess how effective curriculum design impacts effective teaching and learning in the classroom.
The changes in education proposed here represent a significant departure from current practice in most schools and from most of the preparation and professional development that teachers and school administrators have received. Implementing such changes will not require reforming, but rather transforming the entire social and institutional context for learning, including school culture, leadership practices, and pedagogical practice. Depth is, as it suggests, how deeply specific topics within each subject are covered and studied – how well do students understand key concepts, underlying links et al. Essentially, your curriculum encapsulates everything you offer that is an opportunity for students to learn something new, either through direct experience, instruction, practice or by some form of academic osmosis. The symbolism can be better observed when Coraline finally opens that mysterious door one night and discovers a wacky new world just like her own back home but better. In this Other World, the colours are brighter, the house is cleaner, her bedroom is shinier, and her parents are happier. Everything that Coraline perceives as wrong, dull, and sad in her real world is the exact opposite in this wacko new world. Everything from her parents to her neighbours, her clothes to her bedroom, and even her friends are better in this world.
The Barn is also seen in the film, but only as part of the background and the inside was not shown. The Barn is a creaking place that collapses everytime it was seen in the video game, one of the floors collapsed instead you have to walk on the cell bars.
This Other World is made to look happier than the real world through colour, light, angles, and architecture. According to the director of the movie Henry Selick, everything from the trees to the bedspread and the tiniest detail on the staircase wall is intentional, symbolic, and contributes to the story. (Minnick, 2009) The use of architecture in this film as a symbol is poignant and can be observed through every frame of the movie. We also learn that his grandmother, who owns the Pink Palace, believes the place is evil, as her sister went missing from the house when they were kids. Surrounded by all this gloom, with her yellow jacket and blue hair, Coraline is the only vibrant splash of color in the whole place.
This reveal makes it clear that it was her hands we saw reforging the doll during the opening credits. She destroys Coraline's vision stone, making it that much harder for Coraline to find her parents. The doll had previously belonged to the missing sister, and Coraline meets her ghost in a dark room where the Other Mother has trapped her.

Coraline has overcome her loneliness and embraced her surroundings and the people around her, and for now, everyone is living happily ever after. Second, when Coraline's parents are taken, they send her a message through a mirror saying they need her help.
As the door is being opened, the cat and Coraline see that her parents are actually trapped within a snow globe from the Detroit Zoo. Just like the Pink Palace, the cat Coraline meets earlier in the film (voiced by the legendary Keith David) has more to him than meets the eye. When he follows her through the portal to the Other apartment, we learn that he is able to speak. Not only that, but he comes here quite often, knowing that his ability to come and go as he pleases annoys the Beldam.
